Volunteers are essential to the work of the Narcissistic Abuse Foundation (“NAF”). We are deeply grateful for the time, skills, and energy that our volunteers contribute. In return, we are committed to treating every volunteer with respect, providing appropriate support and training, and looking after their wellbeing throughout their time with us.
This policy applies to all individuals who register an interest in volunteering through our website and to all active NAF volunteers.
You can register your interest in volunteering by completing the Volunteering Form on our website. Submitting the form does not create any legal obligation on either party — it is an expression of interest only. We will review your submission and contact you if we believe there is a suitable opportunity that matches your skills and availability.
Due to the volume of interest we may receive, we may not always be able to respond immediately. We appreciate your patience and your interest in supporting our work.
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. To volunteer with NAF, you must:
For roles that involve direct contact with survivors or vulnerable adults, additional background checks will be required. This will be communicated clearly at the point of application for such roles.
NAF commits to:
Volunteers are expected to:
NAF works with individuals who have experienced significant trauma. Safeguarding is a priority at every level of our organisation. All volunteers who work in any capacity with beneficiaries or vulnerable individuals must:
Volunteers must not, under any circumstances, develop inappropriate personal relationships with beneficiaries or act in a way that could be considered exploitative or harmful.
Volunteers may have access to confidential information about NAF’s beneficiaries, operations, supporters, and partners. This information must not be shared with anyone outside NAF without explicit authorisation. This obligation continues after the end of the volunteering relationship.
Volunteering with NAF is unpaid. We will reimburse volunteers for reasonable, pre-agreed out-of-pocket expenses directly related to their volunteering activities (such as travel or materials). Expense claims must be submitted with original receipts or supporting evidence within 30 days of being incurred.
NAF is committed to the health, safety, and wellbeing of all volunteers. We will carry out risk assessments for volunteering activities, provide appropriate training where tasks carry risk, and ensure volunteers are not asked to perform tasks for which they have not been prepared. Volunteers should raise any health or safety concerns with their NAF contact without delay.
We also recognise that the subject matter of NAF’s work — narcissistic abuse and its impacts — can be emotionally challenging. We will provide appropriate support and will never pressure volunteers to engage with content or situations they find personally distressing.
NAF is committed to equal opportunities. We will not discriminate against any volunteer or prospective volunteer on the basis of age, disability, gender, gender reassignment, race, ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation, pregnancy or maternity, marriage or civil partnership, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law in Canada, the USA, Mexico, or the UK.
Either party may end the volunteering arrangement at any time. Volunteers are asked to give reasonable notice where possible so that we can make suitable alternative arrangements. NAF reserves the right to end a volunteering arrangement immediately if a volunteer breaches this policy, our safeguarding requirements, or our code of conduct.
If a volunteer has concerns about their treatment, their role, or any aspect of NAF’s activities, they are encouraged to raise it informally with their NAF contact in the first instance. If the concern cannot be resolved informally, NAF will engage a fair and transparent process to address the matter. Details are available on request.
